There are plenty of travel hacks for saving money out there. Book on a Wednesday, only travel on Tuesdays, spin around and touch your toes to get a 15 percent discount on your next booking. But much of the travel advice we hear is vibes-based, not built on cold, hard data. Fortunately, some sources do have access to the massive volumes of flight pricing information, and those sources can offer real insights to help you book flights as cheaply as humanly possible.
Going, whose goal is helping people find cheap flights, is one of those sources and a bona-fide expert on the matter. “In the past 12 months, we’ve sent 80,000 deals to more than 200 airports around the country on dozens of airlines,” Going travel expert Katy Nastro said in a statement shared with Travel & Leisure. “The team has poured over the data.”
With that data, Going identified the best U.S. airports for consistently cheap international flight deals. These are the airports where Going members were frequently finding fares at half the usual price. So next time you’re planning a trip abroad, it might be worth routing your departure through one of these:
- Orlando International Airport (MCO) — Average deal: 48 percent off
- Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) — 52 percent off
- John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) — 52 percent off
Going also analyzed airports had the most international flight deals overall. These three airports saw more than six deals per week, with discounts ranging from 40 percent to 90 percent:
- New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
At each of those airports, there was one particular route that stood out:
- For LAX, the Los Angeles to Tulum, Mexico flight can be as low as $271 (56 percent off) on American Airlines.
- For JFK, the New York City to Florence flight can cost $344 (63 percent off) on ITA Airways.
- For BOS, the Boston to Mykonos journey can be snagged for $468 (52 percent off) on British Airways.
Of course, this data won’t guarantee you the same deals, but it can help you think more strategically when booking. Really want to go to Florence? Look at flights out of JFK. Dreaming of Greece? Consider taking the Amtrak to Boston and see if you can score a round-trip flight ticket for under $500.
